Lets be honest here- who has gone to bed without washing their face (me)? Or, at least splashed on a little water, slapped on some moisturizer and called it a day (also me)? Don’t lie, I know we all have some time or another. But, our face requires a little more attention to look sexy, that’s why I learned how to follow the Korean Skincare routine to keep my face looking ah-mazing!
Years ago, I looked in the mirror and saw my reflection and realized something had to be done immediately. The dry patchy skin, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation had to go!
So yep, I decided to hop on this Korean skincare routine bandwagon and I am on it for life. It does have a lot of steps and buying all the merchandise adds up quickly. To cut down on some of the costs, I suggest investing the most of your money in products targeting your major skincare concerns. To be honest not all the products I use are from Korean brands. Despite not using all K-beauty products I have still seen a transformation with my skin.
If you’re a traveler like me, this skincare routine has been a lifesaver for my skin. It keeps my skin looking super hydrated and flawless for my adventures.
Okay, ready? I am going to show you how to easily follow the Korean skincare routine morning and night.

How To Follow The Korean Skincare Routine Day & Night
The Koreans are known for doing a double cleanse, which consists of applying an oil based cleanser before cleansing with a soap based face wash. Makeup is oil based and oil removes oil, so this is important step to make sure all your makeup is removed so it will get cleaned properly.
I have tried many oil based cleansers, but my favorite is MyChelle Perfect C Cleansing Oil. This brand is very gentle on the skin and eyes, others in the past I tried have caused a lot of eye irritation. You only need to do this step at night, so skip it in the morning.
After your makeup is removed with an oil cleanser, use your soap based face wash. It’s very important to use a cleanser for your skin type. For dry skin creamy based cleansers work best and gel based if you have oily or combination skin. If your skin ever feels dry after washing then you’re not using the right cleanser and need to look for a new one. Your face should always feel hydrated, NEVER dry after cleansing.
Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser has been my fav for years. As you’re massaging it on your face it begins to warm. Boscia is perfect for reducing pores if they are an issue for you. I like to make sure my face is squeaky clean by using my facial cleansing brush during washing. Just one face wash using the FOREO LUNA Mini and I promise you will never use your hands or washcloth again!
Exfoliating only needs to be done 1-2 times per week with the Korean skincare routine. I am obsessed with exfoliating because it removes dead skin cells and unclogs pores. Other benefits to exfoliating is it evens out skin tone, prevents acne, and increases cell turnover. Your products are also able to penetrate deeper into your skin! If you’re spending a lot of money on products for the Korean skincare routine you might as well get the most for your buck.
One product I love using to exfoliate with the Korean skincare routine is AmorePacific Treatment Enzyme Peel Cleansing Powder . It’s an enzyme cleanser and great for removing dull skin cells. This exfoliant is gentle enough to be used everyday and smells delicious. For more suggestions on exfoliating masks that I use weekly you can check out my post here.
After you finished exfoliating apply toner to close your pores. Toner also reduces the chance for pollutants and other toxins to get in the skin. Using toner adds moisture and balances the skin’s pH system. My favorite toner is from Belif. Their Aqua Bomb Toner gives a quick and instant splash of hydration and glow that feels good applying day and night. Get your own bottle from Amazon now.
Add essence after gently patting toner over your face and neck. Some people wonder if this step is even necessary…yes it is! Essence acts as a steroid to your serum (which is the next step), it gives whatever serum you purchased for your skin care concern an extra boost. For instance, if you have a serum for brightening, it intensifies those benefits.
Fresh Black Tea Kombucha has been a staple and favorite of mine for awhile. I have gone through so many bottles and keep myself fully stocked because it works! My skin has never looked so radiant since adding it to my skincare routine.
Since I have uneven skin tone, I am typically drawn toward serums that brighten my skin tone. There is so many to choose from, just get one for your skincare concerns.
Any serum you are thinking of purchasing, make sure to read the label carefully. Some serums cause increased sensitivity with sun exposure, like Retinoids or Lactic Acid and are only used at night. One of my favorites is Youth Creator from Belif. This is the holy grail for targeting large pores, wrinkles, and giving you younger looking skin.
Sheet masks are highly adored by Koreans and one of my favorite steps in the Korean skincare routine. They are overly serum saturated fabrics and great for giving your skin an extra boost of hydration and glow. You can get mask for whatever problem area you wanna target. I usually goo with masks for brightening, firming, and hydrating my skin.
Sheet masks feel super delicious on the skin, so I typically stock up and buy a large supply since I use them frequently. My absolute favorites are from Andalou, they have rose, coconut, and vitamin C masks to target all my skincare issues.
Sheet masks are done no more than twice weekly. They don’t require any work, just slap on a sheet mask and catch up on a tv show. After 10-20 minutes are up, massage your face with the serum leftover on your face. Hang in there, we’re almost done with the steps for the Korean skincare routine.
Eye cream is applied after sheet masks, just gently tap under your eyes or lids (if directions say to). One cream that hydrates and reduces fine lines under my eyes is from The Inkey List. This eye cream reduces puffiness and hides my dark circles.
Once you let your eye cream penetrate into the sink for a few minutes , massage your favorite moisturizer gently on your face. I suggest you invest in a good quality moisturizer to provide maximum hydration for your skin type. Properly hydrating your face is key to keeping skin healthy and avoiding nasty breakouts. Belif The True Cream-Aqua bomb has been my holy-grail to moisturize my skin. It’s super lightweight and doesn’t feel heavy on my skin.
Most people think applying facial oil will promote breakouts, even more so with oily skin types. It’s a flat out myth. If you are looking to get a healthy glow-add oil to your skin care routine. Believe me, I have combination skin more towards the oily side. My skin has never looked so smooth since adding facial oil to my beauty routine.
There are so many oils to choose from that have amazing benefit, but Josie Maran Argan Oil has been my favorite and I’m obsessed with this stuff! Not only does it make my skin look hydrated, but it helped with my eyelash and eyebrow growth as well. You can check out Josie Maran’s Argan Oil here for pricing. Skip this step in the mornings, at least I found it difficult for my makeup to stay in place when I applied it before application.
Sleeping masks are applied 1-2 times a weekly. Your skin will look so hydrated in the morning after slapping on a sleeping mask, I promise! What is so rad about sleeping masks is they prevent new wrinkles from forming. Glow Recipe Avocado Melt Sleeping Mask is a favorite of mine and will last you a very long time! This avocado sleeping mask is great to nourish and soothe the skin.
TADA! We made it to the final step! Sunscreen is applied in mornings after makeup application, unless your sunscreen is a cream. Purchase a spray, it is way easier to apply. One of my favorites is from Supergoop it is great for protecting your face from the sun, indoor lighting, and computer screen and these things cause aging.
